The Waitaki Valley Health Trust (a charitable organisation) exists to facilitate and enable the ongoing provision of quality health and wellness in the wider Waitaki Valley Community.  The key role of the Trust is to secure a multipurpose physical environment to dispense healthcare and provide the necessary services to promote health and wellbeing throughout the region.

 

Initially formed in 2004 to support healthcare provision following the retirement of Dr. John Chambers after 16 years as the sole GP, the Trust now focuses on securing and managing a versatile healthcare facility. It leases its premises to the Gardiner practice and remains committed to addressing challenges in healthcare distribution, particularly in rural areas where outcomes tend to be less favourable than urban settings.

 

Looking forward, the Trust prioritises safeguarding community health and resilience amidst ongoing healthcare workforce challenges in New Zealand.  Our region is an isolated rural community and the Trust is aware healthy lives will lead to a healthy, productive and resilient region.

  

Collaboration with key stakeholders including local businesses, urban and rural community, Waitaki and Waimate District Council and local Iwi – The Moeraki Runaka is seen as core and fundamental for the Trust.

Introducing the Capital Raising Team ​

For the upcoming Waitaki Valley Health Hub Project, the Trust has formed a Capital Raising Sub-Committee comprising of Trustees and members of our community identified with the skills to help us raise the required capital for the Hub.  The current team comprises of Juliet Gray, Kate Gibbon, Jim Jerram, Alan Pont, Richard Paton, Steve Dalley, Olivia Pavletich and Liz Hayes.
